In this controversial documentary, Michael Moore discusses violence and gun violence in the America. It's number eight on the list of top grossing documentaries of all time. Michael Moore, like most of his documentaries, directed produced and stared in this film. Moore dives into the causes of the Columbine shootings, public opinion, and the over all picture of gun violence and our youth. This film put Michael Moore on the map.
What does this say about America? The fact that this documentary is in the top ten grossing documentaries of all time says we are interested in the topic and in understanding the topic. If the film wasn't successful it could mean we're interested in swiping the topic of gun violence and our youth right under the rug like it's something that doesn't exist. Moore shows how simple it is to buy a gun and even features a bank that gives one out as reward for opening an account. It requires a simple background check and the filling out of some paper work and, BOOM, you're a gun owner.
The Columbine tragedy made America more aware of our troubled youth and of gun violence. It says in the constitution that we have rights to bare arms and rightfully so, but the boys with sawed off shot guns at Columbine don't fit the criteria of a lawful gun owner. I think Columbine really separated society when it came to opinions on gun ownership. Part of society became fearful of any type of gun and the other part of society became even more sure that they were not like these boys at all and deserved the right to own their fire arm. As Americans, we value our rights.
