This documentary portrays the young pop star, Justin Bieber. It contains footage from 2010 shows and shows the young artist in his day to day life. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is the number three top grossing documentaries of all time. Lots of parents took their kids to see this young pop star on the big screen, with it grossing a little over 29.5 millions dollars in theaters.
What does this say about America? It says we value celebrities above all else. No one's rushing to the theaters to see a documentary about politics, unless it's a Michael Moore rendition. There are more television shows dedicated to celebrities and reality television "celebrities" than any other show. Celebrities are like royalty in America. We honor their opinions and closely watch their lifestyles. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never received one star from Imbd.com yet teenagers flocked in the masses to go see the young Bieber on the big screen.
Although Barack Obama's autobiography, Dreams From My Father, is not closely related to the Bieber documentary, I think it's worth saying that our youth should learn a bit more about literature and our own president before concentrating solely on pop culture. Obama overcame more hardships than Bieber did in his short rise to fame, yet Obama's book created a mere 3.3 million in revenue (mediabistro.com) by 2009 while Bieber's documentary earned 29 million just in the box office. I think it's important to create a youth that is educated and can form opinions based on facts by the time they have to vote at 18 years of age. Unfortunately, Beiber won't be on the ballot for the 2012 Presidential Election.
